The CSTDWD maintains the distribution system that runs throughout the Shores. It also monitors the 7 wells and pumps for those wells. We have a pump house and a pressure station along with two storage tanks. The water is tested regularly twice a month to insure that it is potable. Quarterly testing is done to check the parameter of different chemicals. All of this testing is done by Hydro Technologies out of New Milford, Ct. The test results are then sent to the Department of Health in Hartford.
The Water Department has installed a chlorination system and with the help of a licensed operator monitors the levels in the pump house as well as throughout the distribution system. Candlewood Shores had two holding tanks one has the capacity of 104,000 gallons of water and the other holds 20,000 gallons. The pump house has a back up propane generator which comes on if there is a power outage so residents always have water.
In the summer of 2005 the Water Department changed all the meters and modules in every home to a radio based transmitter. This allows the office to read the meters just by driving by each residence. The readings are collected in a hand held unit which is then uploaded to the software housed in the Administration Building. This is done the beginning of each month and bills are sent every 4 months. The meters located in each home are repaired at no costs by the water department except when negligence or weather creates the problem. Those meters are very important to insuring the billing and reporting sequences of the water company.

It has come to the attention of the Water Department’s office that some residents do not have knowledge of who is responsible for repairs in the distribution system. All the main water lines running mostly under the streets are repaired at the cost of the water company. Any repairs needed from the mains to resident’s homes are the responsibility of the homeowner, including curb boxes and water lines running into the home.
This site will be used for notifying the community when there is a water emergency, whether it is a water main break or general maintenance requiring the shutting off of the water supply.
We shall post all correspondence to the State and the Community ie: Newsletters pertaining to water issues and other documents that we feel will help to insure that the residents are kept informed with what is happening at Candlewood Shores Tax District Water Department.
